Trauma and
Stressor-Related Disorders
Relationships are the very oxygen
of human development.
- Peter Benson
Children and Teens
Some children have experienced persistent stress or frightening situations that have shaped how their brains and bodies respond to the world. Their fight-or-flight response may be easily triggered, making everyday environments feel overwhelming. In a classroom or home setting, this might look like big emotions, rejecting or risky behaviors, shutting down, running away, or lashing out. These are survival responses.
Children cannot simply "unlearn" these responses and therapy doesn't "fix" trauma responses. Instead, we focus on expanding a child's sense of safety, connection, and regulation.
Therapy Goals and
Cutting-Edge
Techniques
Using only research-based interventions -- such as TF-CBT, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and mindfulness-based skills -- your child or teen will learn to:
-
Cultivate confidence and self-compassion.
-
Manage intense thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
-
Develop the ability to ground themselves when life feels too overwhelming.
Trauma-Focused
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(TF-CBT)
Research consistently supports TF-CBT as a highly effective intervention for children and teens, signficantly reducing post-traumatic stress symptoms along with depression, anxiety, and grief, with sustained benefits over time.
"Abuse survivors are not only healing from the abuse they endured, but from the ways they were treated when they asked for help."
